Contando Mis Historias: A Workshop in Storytelling for Latinas

Join Latina Mothers Collaborative as we explore storytelling and self expression through photography, writing and art. This will be an intimate space meant to see, hear, and hold space for Latinx women.

You will be asked to bring an object that holds sentimental value to you. Using this object, Carolina Adame will walk you through exercises that will allow you to use either your phone or a DSLR to photograph your piece in various natural light environments, all the while processing how this piece holds a part of your story.

Next, you will learn as Dr. Renee Lemus Elisaldez walks you through a series of writing prompts in order to bring life to the story behind the object you photographed.

Finally Dr. Cristina Rose Smith will facilitate an art meditation on the light and dark in our chosen object and the connection to our story.

Each participant will receive a swag bag along with ONE raffle ticket for our raffle. Additional raffle tickets for sale at event, CASH ONLY.

We will have an optional Comadre Hour from 5-6pm to enjoy each other's company, share our thoughts, and get to know you more! We are looking forward to you presence and energy.

**Note** If unable to attend, there are NO REFUNDS or swag bag giveaways. However you can transefer your ticket to someone with email notice up to 24hrs in advance only.

Flow Sanctuary: Getting to Know Your Cycle

This event celebrates all self identified mothers and everybody who wants to connect with thier cycle.

This event will center the historical experience of Latinx people and other people of color who's ancestral histories are marked by colonization. We will discuss methods to reclaim our ancestral ways in regards to menstruation, our cycles and knowledge of our bodies. We will be discussing and learning about our relationship to the menstrual cycle from a multidimentional lens. Looking at historical context, bodily knowledge, as well, we will explore our emotional literacy around our cycles and flow. Ultimately, we hope to celebrate, connect and empower people who menstruate as an act of resistance against the cis-hetero-patriarchy and all oppresive power structures.

Facillatators will be:

Jhoanna Galvez LM, CPM- Licensed midwife based out of Long Beach, Ca. Her practice weaves evidence based care and traditional birthing practices in serving the diverse families of her region.

Dr. Renee Lemus Elisaldez- College professor at Cal State L.A. in the Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies program. She is also a certified yoga instructor specializaing in pre and postnatal yoga.

Dr. Cristina Rose- College professor at CSU Dominguez Hills in the department of World Cultural and Gender Studies. She is also a La Leche League lactation educator and an artist.
